Fruit Crumble
In
next week’s lesson you are going to make a high fibre crumble.
Look
at the recipe below for fruit crumble and consider how you could increase its
fibre content.
Ingredients
500g fruit (for example, cooking apple, plum, rhubarb,
gooseberry, blackberry and apple, apricot.)
50g sugar
Crumble
topping
200g flour
100g butter
75g sugar
Equipment
Method
1.
Light the oven, Gas 6, 200’C. Place shelf just above centre of the oven.
2.
Quarter, peel, and core apples, or prepare other
fruit. Slice roughly and put in a pan
with a lid, with 5 tablespoons water.
Simmer gently until the fruit is cooked, about 10-20 minutes.
3.
Meanwhile make
the crumble topping: put the flour into a mixing bowl; rub in the fat and stir
in 50g sugar. Carefully taste the fruit
and add sugar depending on how tart the fruit is.
4.
Pour the fruit into an oven proof dish, cover with the
crumble, and bake for 15 – 20 minutes, until golden brown.
